How to arrange a Birth Reflections appointment

Couple, baby and CotYour midwife, consultant or other health care professional, including your health visitor, may give you information about the service while you are in the hospital or during a community visit.

You may also wish to self-refer.

There is a referral form to complete here .

The information you provide will be assessed and used by a health care professional to determine the most appropriate pathway for you, this may be a Birth Reflections session and/or referral for other support.

Due to demand, there may be a waiting list. Once your referral has been received, and if it is decided that a Birth Reflections session is the best option for you, you will be contacted with an update and timeline for when and where this will take place. We may also contact you in the meantime to ask for a little bit more information to ensure we are offering the best choice of appointment for you.

Birth Reflections discussions can take place at any time after your birth experience, when you feel most ready to talk about it, and everyone can request one. We acknowledge that it can take time to settle into parenthood and process the events surrounding your birth. This is a normal part of memory processing.

You may want to access the service to support you as you prepare for a subsequent pregnancy or are already pregnant again, so it is absolutely fine if this is quite a long time since your previous birth experience.

Dependent on the information disclosed on the self-referral form, a referral to perinatal mental health services, perinatal pelvic health services, for peer support, or to community and voluntary sector organisations may be deemed most appropriate.
