Maternity services, including antenatal and postnatal care are delivered from York Hospital, Selby Hospital, Malton Hospital, Scarborough Hospital, Whitby Hospital, Bridlington Hospital and in the community.
York Hospital and Scarborough Hospital are the units that provide a place for you to give birth to your baby or you may also wish to choose a home birth.

York Hospital

You are also able to hop on board a new service from Rawcliffe Bar Park and Ride and be dropped off right outside York Hospital's front door. Services run every 20 minutes between 6am and 8:30pm, with tickets costing £3.20 return (£1.50 return if you have a valid hospital staff pass). All you have to do is park on site at Rawcliffe Bar and catch the bus at the dedicated Hospital Park and Ride bus stand opposite the terminal building, tickets can be purchased through the bus driver.
Our MultiStorey Car Park (MSCP) is open for patient and visitor parking. This operates a 'pay on exit' system. Visitors and staff are required to pay for parking at the York Hospital site between 7.30am and 8.00pm.
A reduced parking rate is available for partners of women in labour. The rate is £2 a day and partners are required to park in the designated area which is signed close to the main entry to the Maternity Unit. After labour, partners and visitors are required to park in the MSCP - standard charges apply.
The Maternity Unit is based on the Ground Floor, York Hospital. There are a number of different areas you can access and all are well signposted from the main entrance on arrival:

- Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit: Junction 8
- Labour Ward Delivery Suite Maternity Triage: G2 & G3
Labour ward has ten labour/birthing rooms, two birthing pool rooms, and two obstetric theatres.
Ward G3 is an antenatal ward of 12 beds which includes four induction or early labour rooms.
Ward G2 is a postnatal ward consisting of 20 beds and 20 cots.
New Selby War Memorial Hospital
The New Selby War Memorial Hospital is a Community Hospital which provides antenatal and postnatal clinics for the Selby and District locality.
Services from the site are mainly provided by York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with some services provided by Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust and Leeds & York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

There are 100 car parking spaces for visitors, shared with the Civic Centre, which includes 15 disabled (blue badge holder) parking spaces. Parking is free of charge and there is a drop off zone directly outside the hospital main entrance.
Covered cycle parking is provided close to the hospital and Civic Centre main entrances.
Arriva: Bus routes 405, 407, and the X45 Selby to Doncaster drop off/pick up outside the hospital on Doncaster Road.
Malton Community Hospital
Malton Community Hospital is located approximately one mile from the centre of Malton on Middlecave Road, providing antenatal and postnatal care to Malton, Ryedale and the surrounding areas.
There are three car parks at Malton Community Hospital, nine disabled car parking spaces are available outside the hospital entrance. There are no car parking charges in operation on site.
The hospital is within walking distance from the station and local bus routes but please note it is uphill from these.

Scarborough Hospital

A new 262 space car park has now opened at Scarborough Hospital. The car park is designated for patient and visitor use only and is located to the right of the main entrance, near the helipad.
The car park operates on a barrier/pay on exit system and payments can be made by cash or card.
There is a drop off zone outside the North entrance, accessed via Scalby Road, and a car park containing disabled and a small number of general spaces. The main visitor car park is at the South entrance, accessed via Woodlands Drive. If parking in the main visitor car park, enter the hospital via the main entrance then follow the internal signs to Outpatients C, North Wing. The visitor car park is approximately 400m from the Outpatients department.
Scarborough Hospital provides antenatal, birth and postnatal care.
The Labour Ward at Scarborough Hospital has five delivery rooms, one with a birthing pool, a four-bedded assessment area and a maternity theatre. It is located adjacent to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
Hawthorn Ward caters for all women who require an inpatient stay in the ante and postnatal periods.
Whitby Hospital
Whitby hospital provides antenatal and postnatal clinics.
Bridlington Hospital (Avenue Ward)
Bridlington Hospital is a district hospital which provides antenatal and postnatal (clinics access to scanning screening and consultant clinics).
Community Midwifery
Teams of midwives provide antenatal and postnatal services from the GP surgery, maternity units, and children’s centres and at home. Home birth services are provided by the community teams on an on call basis.
Antenatal Day Service
We provide an antenatal clinic and day unit at York Hospital and Scarborough Hospital. Antenatal ultrasound is part of this facility.
Malton (alternate weeks) and Bridlington (held twice weekly) provide antenatal consultant clinics screening, scanning is provided in both areas.
An antenatal clinic is held every Monday at Selby War Memorial Hospital where antenatal scanning facilities and a screening service is also available.
Antenatal classes
If you are a first time mum ask your midwife about local antenatal classes which you can access from 28 weeks pregnant.
Antenatal classes produced by our own staff are now available online on the hospital website for you, your family and friends to share at any time during your pregnancy. We hope they will answer many of your questions about your pregnancy and birth at York Hospital. Please remember your community midwife or staff in the maternity unit are always available if you have any concerns and need to speak to someone.
